Environmental activist (and vegan!) Sinéad Ella Allsop stopped buying fast fashion and did the work to find local, Australian sustainable fashion brands that fit and elevate her bohemian style. Read on to see her top bohemian style clothing sustainable brands that don’t let down on color nor bold styles.
Who are you? 🙂
I’m a vegan Aussie-Irish girl living in Western Australia who loves all things animals, environmental science, and education, especially for children. I’m also super passionate about limiting my plastic use and ethical, sustainable fashion.

How did you get into writing about your vegan and sustainable lifestyle and promoting this way of life?
I first started caring about the earth through my love for animals and the outdoors. As a child, I loved nature especially animals and wanted to be a veterinarian so I became a vegetarian pretty young. From that, I always strived to do more to help the planet and animals. Over time I became vegan, studied environmental science at university, and learned about other ways to help the planet like avoiding single-use plastic. Then I started thinking about all the other things in my life and their impact like my love for fashion. I began researching how fast fashion negatively impacts the planet and also the ethics behind fashion and its impact on the people who are making the items. I also watched “The True Cost”, an amazing documentary that goes into all of this so well.
How do you describe your style?
Comfy, natural, vintage, bohemian, simple but with some bold pieces.
What is your go-to bohemian style clothing look?
At the moment my favorite items are just comfy, oversized pieces made of plant fibers. I love Oakie Label and Opia, ethical brands from Byron Bay. I could wear any of their pieces daily, especially their rompers and dresses.
What’s a bohemian style clothing piece in your closet you wear to make more of a statement?
I have some amazing jackets which I think are my biggest statement pieces. I have a few vintage ones that used to be my mum’s, an amazing shaggy jacket from Spell & the Gypsy Collective and also a Tree of Life Afghan coat I found
What bohemian style clothing brands and stores do you love?
I have so many bohemian style clothing I love! But Many Hands, Chasing Unicorns, Oakie Label, Opia, The Hemp Temple, Spell & the Gypsy Collective, Arnhem Clothing, Nine Lives Bazaar, and Hara the Label are some of my faves.
What’s your advice on finding a style and building a closet you love (that is conscious and ethical!), especially for those just dipping their toes in sustainable fashion?
Educate yourself on why ethical fashion is important. I recommend every person watches “The True Cost”. Mostly buy things you’ll wear again and again—basics and items that are comfy and beautiful. That might mean buying smaller amounts of the statement pieces. Remember ethical fashion sometimes comes with a higher price tag but you’re paying for clothes with good quality that will last, that have a smaller impact on the planet, and you are supporting brands that treat their staff well and pay them a fair wage. The brands also usually have more unique pieces you won’t see absolutely everyone else wearing.
How do you think you and others can do more to be sustainable? What other ways can we be sustainable and create change in the sustainable fashion space?
Remember that it isn’t actually sustainable to keep buying fashion in the way you used to buy fast fashion. The most ethical and sustainable way to start your closet is to keep the items you already own and love. Also, the biggest thing for me when purchasing new is making sure I absolutely love every new purchase I make.
Thanks, Sinéad, for sharing your favorite bohemian style clothing that’s sustainable!
