Anna and Karina in all secondhand.

Anna and Karina of @secondhandguidy don’t follow the trends but they aren’t too upset secondhand is trending now. Check out how they find the best thrift (hint: check out your local thrift store scene).

Who are you?

We are Anna and Karina from the Instagram account secondhandguidy. When we met at university 6 years ago, we knew right away that our friendship would be more than just a once-a-month-flea-market-stroll. Last year we turned our shared passion into a business and now we organize secondhand events ourselves to bring the digital thrifter community into “real life”.

How do you describe your style?

Although our 2 styles are rather different (Karina = feminine, contemporary; Anna = edgy, vintage), we both like everything colorful and comfortable. Trends are not important for us—though we love to get inspired by them (especially by those from other decades).

More thrift and only thrift.

What are your favorite brands, stores, apps, tools, or others that help you support your sustainable fashion lifestyle?

We really appreciate the advantages of online secondhand markets. Nevertheless, we definitely prefer offline treasure hunting. However, as there is not yet a real platform that makes it easier to find local thrift shops, we are now presenting the regional retail shops by ourselves on our Instagram account and our thrift tours (“Secondhand Crawls”) through our hometown Hannover in Germany.

What’s your advice on building a wardrobe you love (that is conscious and ethical!), especially for those just dipping their toes in sustainable fashion?

As always our answer is “secondhand”! Who hasn’t already borrowed something from their sibling’s wardrobe? Swapping is the new buying. So how about a swap party amongst friends?

Thank you, Anna and Karina!
