Los Angeles. My hometown. You instilled in me a hatred of freeways; exposed me and gave me a love for so many diverse cultures, blessed me with my best friends, hammered in a warped view of beauty, spoiled me with your weather, and continue to make me dream big. You also gave all of us super talented sustainable and ethical clothing designers—whether born in LaLa Land, inspired by, or now call the city home. See my top sustainable fashion Los Angeles clothing stores picks below.
All shops are saved to this Los Angeles Good Finds Google Maps List to use on your upcoming California visit.
1. CHRISTY DAWN
When I try on a Christy Dawn dress I instantly want to frolic in a magical forest with all of my closet girlfriends and braid each others’ hair….in a non-creepy, non-cult way. 🙂
The company only uses deadstock fabric, the residual fabrics left over from major fashion houses, repurposing for their collections. You can even find a one-of-kind-piece if the company only finds just enough deadstock fabric for one item.
I also love you can learn about each dressmaker making the items (with a fair wage) in Los Angeles. Meet Enrique, who made The Dawn Dress. I love this sustainable fashion Los Angeles store.

2. WHIMSY AND ROW
The Audrey jumpsuit in oatmeal ($178). (Now I’m hungry.) Took photos for this post and for the plant inspo. Pro tip: Go to LA during the summer to snag the fuzzy jackets on sale. Perfect for a San Francisco July. Whimsy and Row
You may have seen the best-selling Flora cropped wide-leg pant. But Whimsy and Row has plenty of other sustainable staples to add to your closet at its sustainable fashion Los Angeles store and online. From striped rompers, to long sleeveless dresses, to one-piece bathing suits in nude and black, the brand’s pieces do “provide ease and elegance for the modern, creative woman.”
The company also makes all of its garments in Los Angeles using only locally sourced, eco-friendly deadstock textiles and materials. So if you see a Flora pant in a color you like it may be gone by next season.

3. Alternative Apparel
Girlfriend Collective! The sale section outside (only in LA). I want to wear all of this on every airplane. Alternative Apparel
In the middle of Abbot Kinney Blvd is a bungalow of sustainable, comfy dreams at this sustainable fashion Los Angeles store. Since 1995, Alternative Apparel has set out to re-create that soft, lived‑in look and feel of our favorite vintage tee. The brand has soft tank tops, soft shorts, soft sweatshirts, soft pants, and a lot more soft things for all genders. And more than 80% of the brand’s garments are made with sustainable materials and processes.
The store also includes additional sustainable brands including People Tree, Girlfriend Collective, Sydney Hale candles, and more.

4. Olderbrother
Sky indigo silk hemp trousers. The collection of saffron and indigo-dyed pieces. Olderbrother
I have a new favorite brand and sustainable fashion Los Angeles store. Olderbrother had me at sky indigo silk hemp trousers.
The company, founded by friends Bobby Bonaparte and Max Kingery, has limited-run collections out of eco-conscious fabrics including organic cottons from Japanese farms and unique blends of wool and woven rice paper. Fabric colors come from all-natural (and edible!) dyes like indigo, tannins, saffron, and madder root.
The clothes are also unisex which means all of your friends will want to borrow your saffron leisure shorts. Beware.

5. GALERIE.LA
We need more pops of color in sustainable stores. Thank you, GALERIA.LA. Some Taylor + Thomas’ Talitha flats. Well-curated clothing in downtown LA loft vibes. GALERIA.LA
Dechel Mckillian, celebrity stylist (hello Drake, Nicki, and Fergie) originally from Los Angeles, saw a gap between sustainable fashion and her experiences in lifestyle and entertainment. She launched sustainable fashion Los Angeles store GALERIE.LA to present a tightly curated selection to bring socially conscious fashion to the masses.
And she did a pretty great job doing this. The store includes brands Back Beat Rags, Dopp, Father’s Daughter, Study NY, Vele, and more—all showing how sustainable fashion can include prints, quirk, color, and fun.

6. Banks Journal
Buy for your guy friends so then you can then borrow. Summer uniforms. Banks Journal
Guys, it’s time I give you some love with a sustainable fashion Los Angeles store and clothing label for you (and for all genders too!) inspired by coastal living and a love of design.
Thanks to its founders, it’s infused with a unique blend of Japanese and Australian style and influence. Founders Masa Shibahara and Motoo Noda grew up in Tokyo. Tim Cochran and Rama McCabe spent their childhood in Byron Bay.
Shop board shorts, t-shirts, tanks, and even wetsuits knowing you are being kind to the earth. All t-shirts and the bulk of our fleece, are made with organic cotton. The label also uses PVC and phthalate free inks across all our screen printing and uses re-purposed soda bottles to create the polyester that’s used in all our woven labels across every product they make.
